CVD is Moving!

As Chicago Volunteer Doulas (CVD) continues to grow, we're excited to announce that we're moving from our high-rise office in the Chicago Loop to a shared office in Little Village. This move is more than just a change of address; it's a step toward deepening our commitment to addressing the urgent need for infant and maternal mortality equity in Chicago's Black and Brown areas. With its rich cultural heritage and vibrant community, Little Village is the perfect place for us to expand our impact and better serve the families who need us most.

Little Village faces significant disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes. Black and Brown mothers are disproportionately affected by high rates of maternal mortality, and babies born in these communities are more likely to face health challenges from birth. By relocating to Little Village, CVD is positioning itself at the heart of the community to provide essential support services that are both accessible and culturally relevant.

As we settle into our new space, we're reaching out to our community for support. The building needs essential repairs, including plumbing, flooring, window repair, and painting. To make this transition successful, we need ALL HANDS ON DECK. If you or your company can donate materials or offer services at a discounted rate, we would greatly appreciate your help in building a safe and welcoming space for families in Little Village and beyond.

While the move is underway, our work continues. Our dedicated Doulas have continued their training and are being matched with clients. We're thrilled to share that they will soon offer a range of workshops and classes. From lactation support to baby food-making and financial wellness seminars, our Doulas are here to empower and educate families.

The statistics around maternal mortality are alarming, but with the right support, outcomes can improve dramatically. Doulas are proven to reduce the risk of complications during birth and increase positive outcomes for both mother and baby. However, the cost of educating a Doula to a certification preparedness level can be a barrier for many. At CVD, we offer free, DONA-led Doula training to ensure more families can access the care they deserve.

Supporting the creation of our new space in Little Village means supporting a movement toward birth equity. With the recent excitement surrounding the first Black-owned birthing center in South Shore, we're proud to be part of the broader effort to ensure that every mother and baby have access to quality care, regardless of their zip code.

We invite you to be a part of this journey. Whether you can offer your time, skills, or financial support, every contribution makes a difference. Together, we can build a space where families feel supported, empowered, and cared for. Let's make this vision a reality.
