The 100 Doulas Rising Graduation on August 3rd was a powerful celebration of dedication, resilience, and community. As Chicago Volunteer Doulas hosted the first ceremony for Cohorts 1 and 2, 36 new doulas stepped into the spotlight, ready to bring vital maternal health support to Black and Brown families in Chicago. This graduation marked just the beginning—many more cohorts are set to follow as part of the ambitious goal to train 100 doulas, with ongoing community and funder support making this vital work possible.
The celebration began with energetic drumming and the lively presence of a stilt walker, adding to the joyful atmosphere as graduates were recognized for their hard work. Each doula received a certificate of completion and a special gift, and their families joined in to celebrate this momentous occasion.
This is just the beginning of the 100 Doulas Rising journey. The August 3rd event honored the first two cohorts, with more to follow as we work toward training 100 doulas. The program’s impact on maternal health in Chicago is already significant, and with continued support from the community and funders, we’re excited to keep pushing forward.
This graduation not only celebrates individual achievements but also highlights the collective effort to address the disparities in maternal care for Black and Brown families. As more doulas are trained and step into their roles, Chicago Volunteer Doulas is committed to expanding this vital work and ensuring every family can access the care they need.
