Celebrating CVDoula Mita Swearengen
Chicago Volunteer Doulas is proud to celebrate one of our own: Mita Swearengen, founder and CEO of Merci Mami Doula Support, SereniTea, and Skin to Kin, and a treasured CVDoula!
Mita’s story is one of resilience and purpose. A survivor of domestic violence and a mother of three, she has transformed her own challenges into a powerful mission: ensuring that every family she touches feels loved, celebrated, and fully supported.
Through her birthwork and businesses, Mita creates spaces where community care is not only possible, but central.
We are thrilled to share that Mita was recently awarded a fully paid scholarship to attend The Motown Experience Birth and Breastfeeding Conference in Detroit — where she will also serve as a distinguished presenter. This opportunity was made possible through the Ms. Foundation for Women, with support from Sona Smith, Birth Justice Program Officer. Mita’s honorarium covers travel, hotel, and conference registration costs.
This scholarship uplifts Mita’s leadership and passion for birthwork, highlighting the importance of supporting community Doulas at the forefront of maternal and reproductive justice. We know she will bring back knowledge, connections, and inspiration to further enrich our community.
Congratulations, Mita! We are so proud of you.
