About Phoenix
Phoenix Perlow-Anderson is a student at Howard University majoring in African American Studies, where her work is driven by a commitment to community, scholarship, and justice. Since freshman year, Phoenix has pursued opportunities that merge academics with activism, building a foundation in leadership, critical research, and advocacy for marginalized communities. Her academic journey reflects both excellence and purpose, with aspirations of continuing her studies into graduate school and shaping policy that addresses inequities in education, health, and social systems.

As a Social Media and Research Intern with Chicago Volunteer Doulas, Phoenix supports projects that highlight maternal health disparities while also leading creative digital strategies to strengthen the organization’s online presence. Her work has amplified the voices of Doulas and the families they serve, ensuring that CVD’s mission and advocacy reach wider audiences. This role reflects Phoenix’s broader dedication to uplifting reproductive justice work, particularly in service of Black women, birthing people, and communities often excluded from quality care.

Alongside her internship/job, Phoenix is also a trained Doula. Her Doula practice is rooted in a belief that birth work is not only about comfort, but about survival and community empowerment. She also brings her passions for beauty, makeup, skincare, and self-care into her work, understanding that caring for oneself is deeply connected to caring for others. Phoenix believes that wellness practices, whether through birth support or self-care, are vital tools of resistance, restoration, and joy for Black women and communities. With passions that span reproductive justice, mentorship, self-care, and social advocacy, Phoenix brings both academic insight and lived commitment to every space she enters. She envisions a future where her scholarship, organizing, and care-work continue to intersect, transforming lives and building stronger, healthier communities.
